But wondering what the consensus is...ive heard people say that cleaning them too ofttimes will lead to excessive article of clothing. Only on the other mitt I dont want any leading to start to build up.

    What practice you guys think?

  2. With standard velocity round and wax coating I've never experienced leading. I've not shot enough HV to find whatever leading.

I make clean when extraction (dirty chamber) becomes difficult. With a .22LR at that place's non going to be any barrel habiliment from the bullets - non in tens of thousands of rounds. So the just barrel and muzzle crown wear will come up from cleaning.

Although you might go some throat erosion.

    IMO.

  3. perhaps every couple thousand rounds, I'll run a diameter ophidian through.
  4. Not very frequently. I'll ran an oiled patch only to prevent rust. That's about it.
  5. Y'all're supposed to make clean them???????

When I was a child, I'd hate to think how many thousands of rounds went down the go-get pipage of my 10/22. I don't think it ever got cleaned.

  6. I utilize a diameter guide and clean up after matches and plinking.

I am new at the small bore game and really wonder if I should be cleaning .22LR lucifer barrels at all.

But every bit an active Highpower shooter, I take these complusive cleaning urges.

  7. I make clean mine after every outing. I shoot from 50 to around 300 rounds through a gun depending on how many guns I took with me.

I have a new to me ruger 77/22. I shot around 450rds and noticed the accuracy was getting bad. When I pushed a brush past the chamber there was quite a chip of build up. A coulple of solvent patches and a few brush strokes and it was clean back to shooting proficient groups.

Most peolple overclean their guns later on they neglect them. I think thats where the idea that cleaning them damages them. Don't let them get too muddied or sit down too long and they clean up fast. Thats the biggest reward to a bore snake. Its so fast and simple it gets used.

..."make clean"? A .22? :uhoh:

I bought my accutrigger'd Cruel .22 MKII used and still haven't cleaned it once. Notwithstanding runs similar a champ. Best $150 spent.

  9. Whenever I take down my Marlin lx for information technology's ~200 circular cleaning, I run a boresnake through the barrel once. That'south about all.
  10. Whenever I can't stand up not having cleaned information technology for so long, not that it really needs information technology.

I boresnake my .22'southward subsequently every outing. Three passes. I shoot fixed-breech guns, so little more is ordinarily necessary, though I'll wipe down everything I tin can attain and occasionally pull the bolt. If I shot every day I would clean less, but information technology could be a calendar month or more between outings.

When I was competing in smallbore we'd clean at the finish of the season only, earlier putting the gear away for the year. Otherwise we didn't even wipe down the guns (climate-controlled safe).

  12. I have never had lead build up in a properly rifled .22 LR burglarize barrel. I have seen lead build up in a Ruger Mark II pistol. I cleaned it out and so used some JB paste to smooth the bore to eliminate its recurrence.

As far as cleaning goes, I like to clean my .22 burglarize bores when I switch ammo types as in that location is some weird interaction betwixt differing brands bullet lube or if the burglarize has been out in the rain. I prefer to use standard velocity loads that are non copper washed. Cleaning a .22 bore is express to the three passes of a bore snake wet with a bit of Breakfree CLP. Other than that, I just wipe downwardly the exterior.

With modern .22 ammo, diameter cleaning is really not necessary.

  13. When accuracy drops off or it starts jamming.

I clean every gun I shoot, regardless of caliber, the twenty-four hours of or within a couple days of shooting. Just the way I was brought up coupled with OCD. With one exception, shotgun during hunting flavor, I clean information technology when needed especially subsequently pelting or snowfall, so one real skillful cleaning at the cease of the season.
  15. This... and then far, I've never had to make clean it. I might run the boresnake downwards information technology one of these days though. Just for the heck of it.:D
  16. Boresnake about every one-half a brick. Nothing crazy only ane-iii pulls through. It is more to make clean out the sleeping room. These are all "over the counter .22's" non match chambers.

Every time I shoot any firearm it gets cleaned. It doesnt crave alot of cleaning if you practise it that manner.
  18. In one case a year whether they need it or non. :)

Really, a .22 bore gets "seasoned" by the lube just as a muzzleloader barrel or a wok or iron skillet. Cleaning down to bare metal can (marginally) affect accuracy usually badly, it volition take a few rounds to re-season the bore. Changing brands or styles of bullets volition require a break-in period too for all-time accuracy. I clean mine just if in that location appears to be extraction problems of the chamber or leading of the barrel.

A lot of folks never clean their .22 barrels, a trend that started when smokeless pulverization totally replaced the Les-smoke partial blackness pulverization loads in the 1930s.

  19. I don't think I've ever cleaned the barrel of my 22's.

I wipe down the exterior of my rifles every time they come in and out of the safe. I don't make clean the barrels of hunting rifles during hunting season unless they have gotten wet. I want repeatable accuracy and I've found the first shot out of a newly cleaned barrel rarely shoots to the exact same POI as a slightly fouled barrel. This can brand a divergence on longer shots.

  20. Make clean a .22 bore, ha ha. You should accept your comedy prove on the road. :D
  21. Never. FWIW, Marlin'southward possessor's manuals for their .22s say that the bore should never need cleaning unless information technology gets crudded up.
  22. Taken from the Marlin Owners Manual, "Since modern ammunition burns very cleanly, with normal apply it is not necessary to clean the diameter of your rifle."

They continue to recommend if information technology gets wet, clean the bore. I follow the manufacturer's recommendation.

  23. I pull a bore snake through every 500-1000 rounds. I give the barrel a full cleaning when I am too bored, its nasty out, and I want to get a rifle or two out. The semi autos are cleaned sooner, though for reliability.

The terminal I checked, the top benchrest shooters are cleaning every 50-100 rounds as they come across the guilt edge accurateness fall off in that catamenia. They are spending $15-$20 for a box of ammo too. I'm certain the peak accuracy of my rifles has fallen off far before I clean, but the ammo I apply is inexpensive enough that I tin can't tell the departure either style(at least afterward a few foulers).
